Strain Summary

Our Psilocybe mexicana spore syringe contains the infamous Jalisco strain. It is known as the sacred and revered “Teonanacatl” or “God’s Flesh” (in the Aztec language). Rediscovered in 1956 by Roger Heim and later given to Dr. Albert Hoffman, this strain has historical significance. It was used in the first-ever chemical isolation of psilocybin and psilocin!

The Jalisco strain was collected from wild specimens found somewhere between Guadalajara and Talpa, Mexico. While the exact location remains unknown, researchers believe it lies just a few miles west of Guadalajara. Jalisco, known to produce potent sclerotia, is commonly called “philosopher’s stones” or “magic truffles.”

Our Psilocybe mexicana spore syringe’s potent Jalisco strain offers an excellent entry point into the study of truffle-producing mushrooms. It’s rewarding to research and ideal for advancing your mycology skill set.

Spore Features

Psilocybe mexicana truffle spores are dark purple to black in color. Microscopically, they appear subrhombic to subellipsoid on 4-spored basidia and form a distinct purple-black deposit. These spores tend to be light producers, so keen observation is key during microscopy.

Rarity

This strain used to be commonly mixed up with Psilocybe galindoi, as they are both found in Mexico. But genetic testing has shown that Psilocybe galindoi is, in fact, a variety of Psilocybe tampanensis. This makes Psilocybe mexicana a genetically distinct and rare species in its own right. And the Jalisco strain stands out as a unique wild varietal.
